The weather finally cooperated last saturday and let us finally get our 2009 season off the ground.  We had a fairly good turnout considering that it was a makeup race and several people who showed up the previous weekend were unable to attend due to prior commitments.  We had a total of 13 racers, 6 in DR, 3 each in TS and Outlaw and 2 in 10.50 Index.  Below are the class by class details:

Orchards Express Care Outlaw

Tim Robards brought out his familiar red Supra for the Outlaw class, and was up against Mark Privratsky's '72 Vega and Justin Brenneman's S-10 Pickup, both newcomers to the program from Albany.  Unfortunately on the first qualifier Tim got into some heavy tireshake and popped the rearend.  Mark was the top qualifier of the day with an 8.81 @ 154.05 and got the win in the 2 car field running a near identical pass vs Justin's 9.82 @ 140.

Tom's Performance Machine True Street

Class sponsor Tom Pinkowski qualified #1 in one of his customers cars, a '68 Chevelle, was our top qualifier with a 9.736 @ 139, followed by Brian Robards at 9.86 and John Uhl's Nova at 10.121.  Round one had Tom with the bye and Brian just squeezing past John 10.01 to 10.18.  In the final the racing was as tight as it gets, Brian ran a very clean 10.00 @ 139.66 to Tom's 9.93 @ 137.71 but took the win at the tree with the hole shot.

Drag Radial

This ended up being our biggest class of the day by a large margin with 6 racers qualifying.  Top honors went to Dan Powell with a 10.24 @ 137.84 which gave him a bye in the 2nd round and a quick trip to the finals after defeating Jeff Glavin to kick things off.  In other first round action Mike Lechip bested Walter Poyner and Pat Choruby got the win light after Jeff Hryciw broke on the track.  Pat was fighting electrical gremlins all day and wend down in the 2nd round to Mike Lechip 12.80 to 11.01.  The final had Dan's Buick running against Mike's honda, where Dan came out on top with a mind blowing 9.77 @ 145!

E.R. Electric 10.50 Index

Only two showed up for the E.R. Electric 10.50 Index class, Steve Laskowske and Curt Landis.  Qualifying was very tight, both racers were less than .05 off the index and running in the 125mph range.  Steve however edged out Curt when it counted with a 10.51 @ 122 vs his 10.61 @ 125.

Lots to enjoy this last weekend, and more good things to come heading into the June 12/13 race at PIR, our first ever 2 day event.  The wed. night beaches cruise-ins should be starting up soon and we hope to do some promoting there for the upcoming races as well as the Dyno Day tenatively scheduled for June 6th.  Keep your eyes open for details to be released as they become available.
